COD payments in Algeria: reconcile carrier payouts
Your parcels show as delivered, but can you already pay for the next wholesale order? To track COD payments in Algeria, match three records: parcels with confirmed customer payment, the carrier’s settlement statement and evidence of money actually received. Delivery, collection from the customer and payout to you are separate events.
This check helps explain differences and plan purchases using available cash. The wholesale cost guide in French covers goods and charges; this guide follows customer collections through to receipt of funds.
1. Separate four amounts
- Amount to collect: the amount requested from the recipient on the shipping document. It is not collected until payment is confirmed.
- Amount collected: what the carrier confirms receiving from the customer. Check whether customer-paid delivery is included.
- Net payable to you: collected funds less documented deductions for that settlement, plus any documented adjustments.
- Amount received: a credit confirmed in your account, or cash actually collected with a receipt.
An announced transfer is not yet money received. If fees are invoiced separately, keep them as an outgoing payment due; do not also subtract them from the payout. If the carrier has already withheld a charge, do not pay or deduct it again in your cash tracking.
Yalidine’s August 2026 transport terms, article 18, address the sender’s collection of COD funds. The 15-day period there concerns collecting those funds; it is not a promise of an automatic bank transfer 15 days after every delivery. Confirm its starting point, procedure and applicable terms with your agency. This is one carrier’s example, not a nationwide rule.
2. Keep one parcel record and identify every payout
A spreadsheet can be enough. For each parcel, record:
- Order number, tracking number and carrier.
- Amount to collect and its components: goods, delivery or another agreed sum.
- Status, confirmed payment date and amount actually collected.
- Reference of the statement or settlement containing that parcel.
- Documented deduction, expected net and received amount allocated to the parcel.
- Remaining difference, supporting evidence and next action with a date.
Keep a payout register too: reference, announced date, amount, receipt date and evidence. One payout may cover many parcels; one parcel may be settled in several payments. Use separate allocation lines in that case, rather than copying the entire payout against every parcel. Allocations must add up to the payment received.
3. Match the same parcels at the same cutoff
Choose a cutoff date and retain the corresponding carrier statement. Then:
- Match tracking numbers without counting a parcel twice across repeated exports.
- Identify paid parcels not yet included in a settlement. Keep them pending; their absence is not automatically an error.
- Check deductions against the relevant contract, invoice or credit note. A settlement can also include refused-parcel fees or charges from another period; show those separately.
- Match the stated net payout to the actual transfer or cash receipt using its settlement reference.
- Keep unexplained differences open. A cutoff date, partial payment or deduction may explain a difference; it is not proof of a loss by itself.
Physical returns and money due need separate records. The COD returns guide explains when goods can return to available stock. Recovering an item does not resolve a payout difference.
4. Fictional example: 120,000 DA collected, 78,000 DA received
Assume 40 paid parcels at 3,000 DA each, with no other sums collected. Documented deductions for these parcels alone total 12,000 DA. These are assumptions, not carrier tariffs or a recommended fee rate.
- Collected: 120,000 DA.
- Deductions: 12,000 DA; total net expected: 108,000 DA.
- One statement covers 30 parcels: 90,000 DA collected minus 9,000 DA deducted, leaving 81,000 DA payable.
- Receipt evidence shows 78,000 DA for that settlement. 3,000 DA needs explanation; a loss has not been established.
- The other 10 parcels represent 27,000 DA net awaiting another settlement.
Total net not yet received is 30,000 DA: 27,000 pending and 3,000 to clarify. Neither the 120,000 collected nor the 108,000 expected is cash already available. This check does not calculate profit: product purchases, ads and other expenses need a separate review in the COD margin guide in French.
5. Budget the next order with received cash
BDC recommends cash projections that account for the timing of incoming and outgoing payments. This is general management guidance, not an Algerian requirement. Separate received cash from expected payouts in your forecast, and check a scenario where an expected receipt arrives later.
In a second fictional example, the available balance before this payout is 20,000 DA. Receiving 78,000 DA makes it 98,000 DA. You set aside 22,000 DA for payments due before the next receipt and a chosen 10,000 DA reserve: 66,000 DA remains allocatable to purchasing. Include all applicable obligations in payments due, including fees not withheld and taxes falling due.
An order of 50 units at 1,000 DA plus 4,000 DA supplier delivery costs 54,000 DA, leaving 12,000 DA after those allocations. These are not recommended quantities or reserve levels. Confirm other commitments before paying; do not add the outstanding 30,000 DA to today’s budget. The minimum-order guide helps check whether a smaller quantity is possible.
A message to clarify a payout difference
Hello, I am reconciling settlement [reference] as of [date]. The statement shows [gross], [deductions] and [net]. I received [amount] on [date], with evidence attached. Please confirm the included tracking numbers, itemised deductions, any partial payment and the status of the [difference] balance. What is the next action and its expected date?
Keep the response with the statement. Update the record when the balance arrives or an adjustment is documented, while retaining the original receipt history.
